Habitat Restoration Turtle

The goal of Sea Turtle Sculpture design proposal is to raise an awareness and concern among the public about the harm to marine mammals caused by plastic debris from the beaches in the US. Sea Turtle Sculpture is designed to serve as in interactive visual aid with the purpose of education and offering solutions for this detrimental issue. By placing it right on a beach shore we offer an opportunity for everyone’s exposure rather than placing it in a museum, where only few would choose to attend.

Sculpture’s see-through body exposes deposited plastic bottles and thus visually causes a response. For every deposited used bottle, each visitor gets a new recycled one with a drink of their choice, free of charge. The idea of immediate reward for their act of caring should cause similar positive acts in the future. Besides collecting plastic bottles, the sculpture offers educational information and suggestions for active involvement in protecting marine life.

Sculpture also becomes an attraction and a place of entertainment, offering water slides for little kids, relaxing driftwood benches with an escape from the wind, and community festivals. Once a “turtle” gets fully filled with plastic bottles the town organizes a community festival with music, food and crafts. All proceeds from the festival go towards marine life preservation organizations in that town.
