Muse

All dementia patients are different, so I wanted to address all of the design practices and elements that are best suited for the complexity and needs of memory care residents. Muse is a memory care facility that focuses on relaxation and social aspects, for example reading, participating in activities, and observing textures and colors around them in turn creates serenity and harmony for these patients. In my research I wanted to deeply and fully understand how people with this disability view the world, how they interact, and what they need. What I learned and implemented in my design is to use a type of way-finding for patients, color; as it is a huge importance in creating a successful space for dementia patients and a variety of different textures, picked accordingly in order to create a calming design. You will see leather wall coverings, wood, live plants, and textured fabrics. Using all these textures is important to provoke interest and stimulate the mind and senses.
